What you don't know, and what he/she is not telling you is....... data costs money and your new wonder toy is set up to use it faster than a Ford-Assaurus uses gas. Worse still - now that cell carriers no longer offer "unlimited" data plans - You are in for a big bill. Hope your heart is in good shape, it's coming.
I have had my new Samsung Capivate for only a week and somehow used 90 of my 200 megableems or something. What happens when I run out? Will a nice voice announce "You have exceeded your alotment - tough" or will it quietly start me a new tab costing a small fortune. The latter I bet.
"But I use it on my WiFi at home!" you say.
Here's a sneaky bit -
BY DEFAULT - WHEN THE PHONE GOES TO SLEEP (DARK SCREEN) - IT TURNS THE WIFI OFF AND USES THE CELLULAR DATA (3G/4G) WHICH USES UP YOUR PLAN.
Oh, you can change this on your phone - setting the wireless sleep to "NEVER" - IF you can find the setting in your phone! It took me nearly 20 min to do it!
Why all the loud capitals? The fact above is going to cost Americans millions on their bill until it becomes common knowledge. Here's another one.
GAMES & APPLICATIONS CAN ACCESS THE INTERNET EVEN WHEN THE PHONE IS "ASLEEP" - EVEN AT NIGHT - SEE LOUD CAPITALS ABOVE
So what can you do? Get a "Watchdog" app - they are free. Get a "Firewall" App - also free, All sounds kind of techie and annoying I know but without these things -
YOU WILL GET A BIG BILL THAT YOU CANNOT TALK YOUR WAY OUT OF.
